In another success to Raipur Police in campaign against illegal business of contraband, a joint team of Cyber Cell, Rajendra Nagar and Telibandha police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested three persons, including two women, along with drugs to the tune of around Rs 16 lakh. Three persons, including two women, were arrested from Rajendra Nagar area along with 12 kilogram opium and 44 kg doda powder worth Rs 16 lakh, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Yadav.

SSP informed that the arrested peddlers were identified as Sunder Singh Sandhu (25), Sobha Salwani (40), both residents of Telibandha and Kiran Chandani (36) of Sejbahar. Apart from the drugs, police have seized a two-wheeler used in peddling of contrabands and mobile handsets from the arrested peddlers. “Following a tip-off about the peddlers dealing in opium and doda, the joint team laid a trap. To catch the peddlers red-handed, a policeman was planted as a potential customer for the drug deal.

As per the deal, the drugs were to be delivered at Rajendra Nagar following which a police team was deployed in the area to arrest the women peddlers. The women peddlers were arrested by the police team when they appeared for the delivery of drugs,” said SSP Yadav. During interrogation, the accused duo revealed of procuring opium from Sunder Singh Sandhu following which he was arrested and drugs were recovered based on information collected from them. Police have registered an offence against the accused trio under relevant Section of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched a probe to find out others involved in the drug peddling, SSP Yadav informed.
