‘Khadi is not only about cloth but it also involves emotions’

The VIA-LEW (Lady Entrepreneurs Wing of Vidarbha Industries Association recently conducted ‘The New Normal Khadi Fashion Show 2020’ at VIA auditorium in the city to promote Khadi. The concept of The New Normal Khadi Fashion Show 2020 was given by Madhubala Singh, Project Director, by explaining the term ‘new normal’ as ‘new way of living our lives’. Manisha Bawankar, Chairperson of VIA-LEW, made the opening remarks and welcomed the guests. The Chairperson, then welcomed the chief guest of the show C P Kapse, Divisional Director of KVIC, Nagpur by giving Tulsi sapling and memento.
She also welcomed the juries of the show Nidhi Gandhi, renowned fashion designer and Prajwal Bhoyar, model and actor, sponsores of the show, Anamika Rokde, owner of ‘Rokde Jewellers’, Aditya Jain from Tantu, Swati Gadewar from ‘It’s New Always Designer and Creator’, Poonam Lala from ‘Rutrop’. Kapse in his address said, Khadi is not only about the cloth but it also involves the emotions, passion, love and affection of every person who weaves it by hands unlike the synthetics cloth manufactured by machines. Suresh Rathi, President of VIA, emphasized on the history and importance of Khadi. Pooja Banerjee, famous actress conveyed her best wishes to all.
In all, 12 contestants participated in two category event and showcased their Khadi attires. Out of which Nurul Patel, Mallika Manavendra, came first and second respectively in the category of best video clips. In designer category Durgesh Dixit (Model Anushree Maitra) emerged as winner and Dr Rupinder Chatwal (model Gauhar Lakhani) as runner up. In model category, Shivani Gorle was declared the winner and Shayaree Meghe as runner up. The other participants were Gatha Shivhare, Reena Gulati, Kavita Bansod, in designer’s category, Vidhi Sharma, Muskaan Mansharmani and Natasha Barapatre in model category. Prizes for the fashion show were sponsored by Rokde Jewellers, Tantu, It’s New Always Designer and Creator and Rutrop.
The project directors of this fashion show were Madhubala Singh, Neelam Bowade and Shikha Khare. Prominently present were VIA Vice-President Dr Suhas Budhe and VIA executive committee members, VIA-LEW executive committee members namely Sarla Kamdar, Prafullata Rode, Sarita Pawar, past presidents Saeeda Hakqe, Chitra Parate, Y Ramani, Anjali Gupta, Anita Rao, Vandana Sharma, Shachi Malik, Immd Past President Reeta Lanjewar, vice-presidents Indu Kshirsagar, PRO Yogita Deshmukh, EC member Poonam Gupta and 120 plus participants.
