Govind Singh Rajput defies odds to win in Surkhi

Defying all speculations, BJP candidate from Surkhi Assembly segment Govind Singh Rajput marched on the victory path in the by-poll. Rajput won the by-poll by margin of 40,990 votes from his nearest rival Congress candidate, Parul Sahu. In the morning, counting of votes started at the Govt Engineering College, Sagar amidst tight security arrangement. Officers were monitoring the process and cctv camera were also installed to keep vigil at the venue. Since first round, Govind Singh Rajput was taking the lead. Till fifth round, Govind Singh took lead by 9,532 votes.
 
After objection by Congress candidate Parul Sahu, counting of votes was halted for some time, then when objection was resolved by officers, counting of votes resumed and BJP candidate maintained his lead. In the sixth round, Congress candidate took the lead by 1,542 votes. In seventh round, BJP again took the lead by 10,233 votes. In 11th round, lead of BJP candidate was 19,616 votes. In 13th round, lead of BJP candidate reached to 29,957 votes. By the 16th round, lead of Rajput was 29,957 votes. In the 20th round, BJP candidate lead was 38,523 votes. In the last round, i.e 22nd round, BJP candidate Govind Singh Rajput won the seat by margin of 40,990 votes.
 
Among other Assembly segments which went for by-poll in State, Surkhi Assembly segment had much hyped attention as very popular leader of the area, Govind Singh Rajput was seeking votes from voters again after one and half years’ time as he joined BJP leaving the Congress. Congress did not leave any stone unturned to make the poll battle interesting as it pitted Parul Sahu against Rajput. Parul Sahu had joined the Congress after by-poll schedule was announced. Senior leader of the area and Minister Bhupendra Singh and Pandit Gopal Bhargava were monitoring the canvassing in Surkhi and entire BJP clan was determined to win this prestigious seat and finally now the party leaders and workers are jubilant and fireworks are burst after the historic win of BJP candidate in entire Sagar district.
