Property worth several lakhs of rupees gutted in a devastating fire that occurred at a chemical factory located in Light Industrial Area (LIA) of Chhaoni in Bhilai on Thursday noon. Soon after getting the information, the well equipped fire fighting squads from various agencies, including that of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), reached the troubled locations immediately, but it took over four hours to douse the fire completely. However, no one was injured in the fire mishap. According to information at about 1:30 pm on Thursday, all of a sudden fire broke out at Utkal Hydrocarbons of LIA, Chhaoni, Bhilai and with emission of thick smoke flames were seen reaching high. After getting the information the fire fighting squads reached the location and pressed into service the combined tenders to extinguish the fire.
The sources said that with intensive fire fighting exercise the fire fighting squads could douse fire completely by 6 pm. D K Mahapara, Chief Fire Officer, Fire Brigade Department, BSP told the newspaper that the fire fighting agencies pressed into service several combined tenders, comprising foam, dry chemical and water to douse fire. It was an intensive fire fighting work due to unavailability of water in the location. However fire was brought under control in due course of time. Vishwas Chandrakar, CSP, Chhaoni Police Subdivision informed that after information police teams reached the spot immediately and cordoned off the area to avert possibility of any untoward incident due fire mishap.
Since it was the lunch break in the factory, no worker got trapped in fire and even nobody was injured in the mishap. According to chemical factory Proprietor, Pankaj Porwal, it could be due to short circuit, but the cause of fire could not be known exactly and the police are seeking report from the experts from power supply and Industrial Safety Department to ascertain the cause of fire.
He also informed that the chemical factory proprietor Pankaj Porwal was in a state of shock after fire mishap occurred and he could not mentioned about the estimated loss due to it. On learning about the mishap the experts from power supply and industrial safety departments also reached the spot and recorded all details after fire brought under control.
