PHYSICALLY Challenged Cricket Association Nagpur (PCCAN) scored a convincing six-wicket win over Maharashtra State Cricket Association for Disabled (MSCAD) to lift the maiden Sahare Memorial Trophy the other day. The ten-overs a side match was played in memory of Kusumatai Sahare on the occasion of her death anniversary. The event was a joint venture of Aai Kusumatai Sahare Foundation and the Physically Challenged Cricket Association, Nagpur. At the NMC Wathoda Cricket Ground, Near Bhatia Bakery, MSCAD chose to bat first by winning the toss.
The team scored 76-6 in 10 overs with Pawan Shende and Irshad contributing 27 and 10 runs respectively. PCCAN’s Rajesh Chaudhary (1-0-4-2) and Ujjwal Pohir (1-0-8-1) were the successful bowlers. Chasing the target, PCCAN made 77 for four in 8.3 overs. Matin Baig (22), Akshay Dhavad (14), Mangla Adamkar (8) Sanjay Karwade (8) contributed in the winning cause. MSCAD bowlers Yashwant Wagh (1-0-2-2) and Mohsin Khan (1-0-8-1) did well with the ball. Baig was named Man of the Match- Matin, Wagh the Best Bowler, Krishna Sontakke walked away with Best Fielder award was Shende was declared as Best Batsman. The prize distribution programme was conducted by Gurudas Raut. Nitin Harde, Dhiraj Harde, Sarang Chaphale, Ajay Bhute, Sachin Pakhare, Yashwant Wagh, Kalpana Satpute, Mangla Adamkar, Rikesh Bisen, Prashant Gharat, Mahfooz Alam, Janak Sah, Rajesh Chaudhary, Dushyant Hande, Prashant Gaurkar, Prashant Gharat, Mahesh Raut and others helped in making the event successful.
At the outset, the contest was inaugurated by Deputy Mayor of Nagpur Manisha Kothe in presence of Nagesh Sahare, Uttam Mishra (President, MSCAD), Sanjay Bhoskar (Secretary, MSCAD). Nutan Umredkar, (Treasurer MSCAD), Anil Kotangale (Head, PCCAN) Dhananjay Upasani (Head PCCAN) Gurudas Raut (Captain Indian Divyang Team) Rahul Lekurwale and others. Kothe praised the handicapped players and said that everybody learns from them. She assured to organise a state-level and national cricket tournaments in future. Sahare promised to stand with the divyang association in getting justice for them.
The chief guest of the event was Krishna Khopade (MLA, East Nagpur), Smitatai Chakole (Chairman, Nehru Nagar Zone) Jitendra (Bunty) Kukde (Corporator, NMC, Nagpur, Division No. 26D) Raju Dudhankar (Vice-President, Para Volleyball, Maharashtra). Bhushan Dadwe (PCCAN). Sandeep Gavai (Eklavya Krida Awardee) Sachin Thombre (PCCAN), Ashok Katekar (Founder, AK Real Estate), Sanjay Avchad (President, BJP East Nagpur) were among those present. During the concluding ceremony the following divyang players were greeted by Khopade, Sahare and Chakole by giving a memorial: Yashwant Wagh (international player), Ajay Bhute, Matin Baig, Rikesh Bisen (all national divyang players), Atul Harode (national divyang player blind category), Anjesh Tiwari, Abhishek Thawkar (national players), Lakshman Bawankule (international writing competition winner).
