A fine of Rs 500 for not wearing masks seems no deterrent for the Bhopalites, as COVID-19 protocols are being openly flouted in public places across the State capital. Despite recording more than 300 cases a day, on an average for the last 15 days, the authorities are struggling with rampant violations by the citizens. From callousness in wearing masks to absence of social distancing, protocols are being ignored openly in the district.

The blatant disregard for the law as well as public health was visible on Diwali across the State capital, result of which is the sudden spike in daily COVID-19 cases. Post-Diwali, the health authorities had identified four areas where the caseload is increasing day-by-day due to overcrowding. The top areas are Kolar, MP Nagar and TT Nagar. This is the joint responsibility of the government and of the public to prevent the pandemic from spreading by following all the norms.
