After declaration of the results of third round of counting of votes for Nagpur Division Graduates’ Constituency polls, considered as stronghold of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Adv Abhijit Govindrao Wanjari of Maha Vikas Aaghadi (MVA) was leading by 9,611 votes over his nearest rival Sandip Diwakar Joshi of BJP. With the counting underway, the administration took some time to declare details of counting after first round. But details of subsequent rounds kept coming at regular intervals.

At the end of third round, total 84,000 votes were counted of which 7,228 were found invalid. Thus, the total number of valid votes at the end of the third round was 76,772. Adv Wanjari polled 35,509 votes while Sandip Joshi got 25,898 votes. Wanjari maintained his initial lead in third round too. The counting for the fourth round was on well past midnight and the final result was likely by wee hours of Friday. After second round of counting, total counted votes were 56,000, of which 4,769 were invalid and 51,231 were valid. Of the valid votes, Adv Wanjari secured 24,114 votes while Sandip Joshi could muster 16,852 votes. Earlier, Wanjari scored lead in the first round with 4,850 votes.

He secured 12,617 votes while Joshi polled 7,767 votes. In second round, Wanjari got 11,497 votes while Joshi secured 9,085 votes. Except Atul Khobragade, Rahul Wankhede and Nilesh Karale no other candidate could muster the individual vote tally in four digits in three rounds. Though the constituency was considered as the stronghold of F BJP, this time political pundits had predicted a close fight. The organisational strength and meticulous campaign always have been the plus points of BJP. Against that backdrop the lead by Adv Wanjari from the first round was surprising. The counting process began at 8 am but it took 5 pm for the administration to declare results of the first round. The delay in declaration of results of the first round was attributed to the confused and chaotic voting.

Most voters did not exercise their franchise in a proper manner. Many did not right the number one before their candidate, some did not write the preference in a proper manner. Officers at the counting centres had to do much hard work to identify invalid votes. Yet, there was no chaos among the officers and staff on election duty. Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Commissioner ensured that the process would be conducted in a smooth and proper manner. He himself monitored every single development during counting. By securing 5,757 votes, Atuldada Khobragade was third after third round followed by Nilesh Karale (4,314) and Dr Rahul Wankhede (2,323) among top five.
