Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on Friday inspected Shankar Nagar and Rachna Stations on the Aqua Line on Reach-3 of Nagpur Metro. He inspected various facilities available for passengers in the station area and reviewed the security. Appreciating the detailing on part of Metro officials as all aspects relating to passenger comfort and security is adequately taken care off at planning and execution stage of the stations.
During the inspection, CMRS officials inspected the AFC gate, emergency call point, emergency stop plunger in the platform area, elevators and escalators, facilities provided for passengers in the station area. They also inspected toilets, drinking water system, baby care room, special toilet for the disabled, notice board etc. In addition, the CMRS team inspected various security equipment such as Signalling Equipment Room, Telecom Equipment Room, Transformers, Station Control Room, Hot Standby Working Electrical.
A mock drill was also conducted during the visit to provide a peek into evacuation measures that would be put in place in case of any emergency at the metro station. Metro stations of Rachna Junction (3488.07), Shankar Nagar Square (6996.00) square meters on the Aqua Line route have arrival/ departure arrangements on either side (north and south) of the station. A ticket counter and station control room are located on the second three-storey Concourse level, namely Ground Level, Concourse Level and Platform. The spacious spaces at stations can easily handle future increased footfall as all arrangements are in place for handling the same.
The two stations are located at important traffic junctions can as traffic picks-up would see increased patronisation from Nagpurians in time to come. Metro officials are banking on Aqua Route for higher footfall owing to presence of number of educational institutions all along. The Hingna route that was is always crowded with commuters as apart from educational institutes, industrial estates and visitors to market of Sitabuldi. As of now 16 metro stations have been opened for commuters on Aqua and Orange Lines.
Director (Project) Mahesh Kumar; Director (Rolling Stock and Systems) Sunil Mathur; Director (Finance) S Shivamathan; Executive Directors Naresh Gurbani, J P Dehria, Girdhari Paunikar and Rajesh Patil; General Managers Sudhakar Urade, Namdev Rabade, Ashish Sanghi and other officials were present during the visit of CMRS.
