The All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), representing the majority from the banking industry, on Monday announced its support to “Bharat Band” to be observed on December 8. On November 26, all Central trade unions and all India organisations had given a call for nation-wide strike to mark opposition to the labour laws passed recently in the Lok Sabha session. At the time along with labour laws, the unions were also demanding for withdrawal of farm laws. “Farmers till then were committing suicide in desperation and frustration but indeed its good that now they have come on streets to fight for their just demands,” said Devidas Tuljapurkar, General Secretary of the Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation (MSBEF).

MSBEF is affiliated to AIBEA. The present Government with its arithmetical majority is trying to suppress the voice of dissent. In case of passage of labour and farm laws also the Government did the same and resultantly that voice of dissent is now on streets, observed the association. Instead of initiating dialogue with the agitating farmers, the Government is trying to crush the voice by using force which is most unfortunate, he added. Indian farmers are the backbone of the economy.

During the pandemic this is the only sector which has saved the economy. On the background the Government without sitting on the prestige should withdraw the farming laws. On the day, bank employees will wear the badges, hold protest demonstrations, dharna, rallys etc., to support the agitating farmers, Tuljapurkar said.
