IN order to register their protest against the latest amendment Article 144 in the Co-operative Act 1960, all employees working in the co-operative societies have called a one-day strike on February 15, The call is given by ‘Nagpur Zilla Patsanatha va Karmachari Patsanstha Sahakari Sangh Maryadit, Nagpur. Rajendra Ghate, President of the Union while talking to The Hitavada, informed that in Maharashtra Article 144 added to the Co-operative Act 1960 which say that an independent regulatory body will be formed, whereas 0.10 per cent of part payment of the deposits will have to be paid by the co-operative societies to the regulatory body.
The part payment of the deposit has been further reduce to 0.05 per cent but there is no clarification about the utilisation of the fund by the Government. “We demand complete abolition of the Act. A delegation of more than 200 co-operative societies of the district will be meeting Shyamrao alias Balashaheb Patil, Co-operative Minister of Maharashtra and Anil Kumar Kadwe, Co-operative Commissioner and Registrar of Co-operative Societies.” Ghate also informed that all the 1,057 societies of the district along with its 25,000 employees and 45, 000 pigmy agents will be participating in the one-day strike. Ghate has also requested all the employees of co-operative societies and its pigmy agents to make the strike successful.
