In a situation when rules are being blatantly violated, following them honestly and setting example for others, is a sort of social work. Unless there is inner feeling of extending help to others and respecting those of others, acquiring degree in social work has no meaning. This was stated by Mayor Sandip Joshi. Joshi was speaking during a programme to release book on founder Principal of Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work Dr Satyabala Tayal on Tuesday.
The programme was part of centenary year celebrations of parent body Matru Sewa Sangh. Dr Tayal later became President of Matru Sewa Sangh. Deputy Mayor Manisha Kothe, Director of VNIT Dr Pramod Padole, Chief Reporter from The Hitavada Kartik Lokhande were the guests of honour. Secretary of MSS Dr Lata Deshmukh, nutrition expert Dr Jayashri Pendharkar, Principal Dr Jyoti Niswade were present. Joshi recalled dedication with which Dr Tayal worked, after she came here from Hissar, following Acharya Vinoba Bhave, at a very young age. She dedicated her life for service to the society through MSS.
Quoting examples of Rambhau Ingole, Snehanchal, Shashikant Ramteke, Joshi said that they are social workers without undergoing formal training, but worked with their sensitivity and inner feeling for humanitarian cause. Those who undergo formal training can work more effectively, he added. Besides book on Dr Tayal, in-house bulletin of the Institute was relaunched on the occasion. In recognition of founder of MSS Padmashri Kamlatai Hospet and founder of the Institute Dr Satyabala Tayal, the bulletin has been named ‘Satya Kamal. Dr Padole extended best wishes to the Institute and stated that they would like to collaborate with it, for mentoring VNIT’s students, as is being done with the help of TISS. Lokhande also supported the view that attitude for extending help to others is necessary for effective working as social worker. The honest work is supported by the society.
Social work is a value ingrained in our culture. The term ‘Dharma’ (not religion) is a duty towards the society for establishing bond with others and feeling to work for welfare of all without expecting anything in return. He expressed expectation from social work students that the beginning with a small positive step of following the rules and aim towards a better future society. Dr Lata Deshmukh made introductory remarks and gave information about plan for MSS centenary year celebrations. Dr Niswade spoke about book on Dr Tayal, which she has edited.
Dr Pendharkar and Manisha Kothe also spoke on the occasion. Dr Naveenchandra, Convenor of the programme, gave information about the bulletin. Prince Agashe and Poonam Nimje conducted the proceedings. Dr Niswade proposed a vote thanks. International Seminar: An international seminar is being held at the Institute from February 12 to 14, with main theme of ‘Women in India and Israel: Past, Present and Future’. The seminar is being held in collaboration with School of Social Work, Sapir College, Israel; Mahatma Gandhi Fuji Guruji Centre for Social Work, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha and Tirpude College of Social Work.
