“Narendra Modi- led Government at the Centre is constantly taking decisions of protecting all rights of common people in the country. The Government in the Centre is committed to protect the sanctity, serenity and core of Indian Constitution. Unfortunately, the anti-national forces in the country are busy in maligning image of the Government,” said Dayashankar Tiwari. Addressing the public awareness programme organised by Lok Jagruti Morcha to support Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Sakkardara Square on Saturday, Tiwari alleged, “The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not against any Muslim or any religion. This act is for protecting the rights of Muslims in the country, but the Congress Party leaders are misleading Muslims in the country by saying the act is against Muslims.”

Tiwari appealed the audience to read CAA act in depth, think over it, know the truth and then form opinion about it. Stating CAA is not against citizens to take away their citizenship, Tiwari said, “CAA is an honest effort by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure rights of every Indian, despite of the relationship.” Tiwari further added that, Citizenship Amendment Act was a very old act and is existing since Independence. In last 70 years, eight amendments were made in this act.

The first amendment was done by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on December 27, 1957; the second amendment was done on December 26, 1960 and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the prime minister. When Rajiv Gandhi was Prime Minister, three amendments were made in this Act on December 7, 1985, May 15, 1986 and July 1, 1987. During the period of Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, the sixth amendment was done on December 10, 1992. During the ten years tenure of Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, two amendments were made in this Act on December 3, 2004 and June 28, 2005.”

“All these eight amendments were done by Congress-led Government in the Centre. On January 6, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had just followed the tradition and amended the Act. Narendra Modi had only implemented the strategies of Congress-led Governments, then why Congress is opposing the same and misleading the people?” he asked. Tiwari also shared number of anecdotes about the act and past developments. MLA Mohan Mate, Corporator, Adv Dharmapal Meshram; Adv Narendra Gondane, Sayyed Hussain Ali; Bhante Raoji Pindak of Shuddha Chitta Buddha Vihar; Charanjit Singh Renu, Subhash Kotecha, Ashok Goyal, Devendra Dasture, Pintu Jhalke and convenor of Lok Jagruti Morcha, Adv Raman Senad were also present. Adv Raman Senad made introductory remarks and proposed a vote of thanks. Abhijeet Mule conducted the proceedings.
