THE district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in Opposition in Maharashtra, has decided to stage dharna in front of all the Tehsil Offices in Nagpur district on February 25 . The dharna will be staged to condemn the failure of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Government -- which comprises Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Congress -- in keeping its own promise of loan waiver to farmers and increasing crimes against women. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, former Guardian Minister of district and senior BJP leader, said, “Shiv Sena chiefand Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and senior leaders of Congress and NCP had announced to give Rs 25,000/- per hectare compensation to farmers.

However, MVA Government comprising these three parties has failed to honour own promise. The loan waiver scheme announced by MVA is complicated. MVA Government should fulfil own promises,” he said. Since MVA coming to power in Maharashtra, there has been tremendous rise in crimes against women, alleged Bawankule. “Compared to the tenure of BJPled Government, crimes against women have increased by 7 per cent during MVA’s tenure so far. Besides, the brazenness in incidents at Hinganghat and other places reflect that there is no deterrence of law.

MVA Government has failed in curbing crime,” he said, while addressing a press conference at Press Club here on Sunday, on the eve of start of budget session of State Legislature in Mumbai from Monday. BJP’s agitation on February 25 will be led by different leaders in different tehsils. The tehsilwise list of leaders include Kamptee -- Anil Nidhan, Leader of Opposition in Zilla Parishad; Mouda -- Tekchand Sawarkar, MLA; Nagpur Rural -- Ashok Mankar, former MLC; Hingna -- Sameer Meghe, MLA; Umred -- Sudhir Parwe, former MLA; Bhiwapur -- Anandrao Raut; Kuhi -- Arvind Gajbhiye, District President of BJP; Ramtek -- D Mallikarjun Reddy, former MLA; Parseoni -- Ashok Dhote; Saoner -- Dadarao Mangale, Kalmeshwar -- Dr Rajiv Potdar, former District President; Katol -- Charansingh Thakur; and Narkhed -- Ukesh Chauhan. MVA Government has been stalling good schemes launched by erstwhile BJP-led Government, alleged the former Energy Minister.

Jayant Patil, Finance Minister in MVA Government, recently spoke of probe into Jalyukta Shivar Yojana works. Commenting on this, Bawankule said, “BJP and Shiv Sena both were in Government when the scheme was implemented. Guardian Ministers were from both the parties and they chaired committees looking after scheme implementation. Jayant Patil should clear if probe will be conducted only in districts where Guardian Ministers were of BJP.” Bawankule alleged that MVA Government was resorting to ‘politics of spite’, and flayed it for curtailing District Planning Committee funds for Nagpur district. MVA has recalled Rs 25 crore allocated for development works in Hudkeshwar, he alleged. BJP has submitted a memorandum in this regard to Chief Minister.

Bawankule also demanded action against Waris Pathan, Spokesperson of AIMIM, over objectionable comments. Bawankule welcomed Uddhav Thackeray’s statement supporting CAA. Replying to a question, Bawankule said that he welcomed the announcement of Dr Nitin Raut, Energy Minister and Guardian Minister of district now, of providing power supply for free till 100 units. But, he remarked, the subsequent comments against it by Ajit Pawar, Finance Minister, showed that there was no coordination in MVA Government. Still, if power supply up to 100 units to be free, State Government will have to make budgetary provision for paying the compensation to MSEDCL. Arvind Gajbhiye, Dr Rajiv Potdar, Ashok Dhote, Ashok Mankar, Anil Nidhan, Ukesh Chauhan were present prominently at the press conference.
