Young disciples and assistant faculties of ‘Kalasrjan’ the Academy of Indian Classical Music, Dance and Fine Arts presented magnificent performance of Bharatnatyam and Kathak on the day-two of 12th Foundation Day Celebration of the Academy that took place at Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Auditorium, Lala Lajpatrai Marg, Civil Lines. ‘Kalasrjan’ is the cultural wing of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra. The event commenced with lighting of traditional lamp at the hands of chief guest Guru Swati Datar, Director, Swarada Nritya Sanstha, Pune.
Dr Sunanda Sonarikar, Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra; Padmini Jog, Executive Committee Member, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra; Prof Q H Jeevaji, Executive Committee Member, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra; Justice Vikas Sirpurkar, retired Supreme Court Judge; Malini Menon, Member, Core Committee; T L Raja, Joint Director; Lalita Hardass, Member, Core Committee; Raji Srinivasan, Principal, Bhavan’s BP Vidya Mandir, Chinchbhuvan; Vijay Thakre, Registrar; Parwati G Iyer, Principal, Trimurti Nagar and Srimathy Madkholkar, Principal, Kalasrjan were also present.
The audience witnessed a delightful performance by students who presented various dance performance during the event. The event commenced with Bharatnatyam performance on ‘Shri Jalandhara’ by young disciples and faculties jointly. ‘Jatiswara’ a composition of Rajashri Nilkanthan performed by disciples was appreciated by the guests and audience.
Every participant of the event well maintained the grace of Mysore style Bharatnatyam that left the audience mesmerised. It was a breathtaking performance as the dancers kept their movements and expressions up to the mark and the body language impressive. Similarly, Kathak dance performance by students also appreciated by all. Students presented Durgastuti, Ganeshstuti, Krishna Bhajan and many other performances under the guidance of guru Radhika Sathe. Rajini Iyer, Parthavi Paunikar, Shrishthi Waghmare, Nitya Sharma, Nidhi Kale, Kavita Janaiwar, Sara Chaudhari, Kanal Jain, siddhi Bais, Rashi Nimbala, Janavi Belge, Shweta Bhaisare, Chhavi Rajput, Avika Mishra and Shiral Singh were awarded with diploma certificates at the hands of the chief guest.
Dedication, practice, discipline are must to get expertise “Dedication, practice and discipline are must to become an expert in any traditional art,” said Guru Swati Datar during the event. Appreciating the efforts of the Academy, Datar said, “Kalasrjan is very well imbibing all these three factors in their students to create a healthy atmosphere.” “Guru like Srimathy Madkholkar is doing a commendable job to spread Indian traditional art in the era of fusion and western forms,” chief guest added. Datar also appreciated the efforts of parents who are providing opportunities and supporting their kids to learn Indian traditional art forms. “Young artists must need appreciation to generate self confidence to get something better in their fields. It is just the beginning, every young artist must have to do more practice to be expert in their art form,” she added.
