The body of the girl was found at Mangalwari Complex on Monday morning

A young girl was strangled to death by her boyfriend in a fit of rage during a quarrel at Mangalwari complex in Sadar area in the wee hours of Monday. “The girl was upset over the youth for postponing marriage date. She was reportedly forcing him for marriage which was the trigger point of the murder,” said police. Sadar police have arrested accused Ashif Sheikh (26), a resident of Gittikhadan, within four hours after killing his girlfriend Husna Kismat (21), a resident of Mahendra Nagar, Pachpaoli in the basement of Mangalwari complex. “Sheikh is a truck driver while Husna was working as salesgirl in a mobile phone shop,” said Police Inspector Mahesh Bansode of Sadar police station.

The two were in relationship for past three years. However, family of Sheikh was not in favour of their marriage. Husna was pressurising Sheikh for marriage and he was giving excuses citing family pressure. In 2019, Sheikh promised the girl that he would marry her in January 2020 and later postponed the marriage due to intense family pressure. The couple was roaming in the city on motorcycle from 7.30 pm on Sunday and came back at Mangalwari area of Sadar around 12 midnight. A discussion over marriage between the two turned into heated argument at the basement of Mangalwari complex at around 1 am, said police. In a fit of rage, Sheikh strangled Husna to death with her scarf.

When she collapsed on the ground and felt unconscious, Sheikh fled the spot. The body was discovered by passersby who promptly alerted Sadar police. Staff of Sadar police station led by PI Mahesh Bansode rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. After recording statements of her family members, the police suspected involvement of Sheikh in the murder case. The police caught him from Gittikhdan area. “During interrogation, Sheikh confessed for committing murder during arguments with the girl,” said PI Bansode. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone II Vinita Sahu informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the couple had also gone to Delhi last year. “Marriage was the trigger point of misunderstanding between the couple,” said DCP Sahu. An offence under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered by Sadar police against the accused. Further investigation is on.
