COVID-19 Impact Organisation always received grant amount till March 31 between 2009 and 2019, but as the entire country has witnessed a steady rise in the cases of the deadly pathogen, organisation have lost hope of receiving any grant within a month or two following the lockdown

The ongoing COVID-19 crisis has left its deadly impacts on every walk of life. Right from the governments to different organisations working in different fields have been affected badly due to global outbreak of the deadly virus. Same is the story of Seva Bharti, an organisation that provides accommodation and alternative care for children without parental care, which is facing double whammy due to ongoing COVID-19 crisis. In lack of government grant for months, Sewa Bharti and other similar organisations which offer a social environment including care and protection for orphan children across the State, are themselves going through the uncertainty and dilemma.

As per sources, these organisations are waiting for their second quarterly grant since October, 2019. In lack of required grant from the State Government, how these organisations are managing facilities for children is beyond explanation. As all the departmental activities are brought to standstill during to global pandemic, these organisations are the worst affected. It may be mentioned that Seva Bharti runs three orphanages including Matra Chaya for kids from 0 to 6 years, Ladali Basera for orphan girls above 6 years and Gurukul for above 6-year boys. Since the organisation started functioning in 2004, a total of 774 children have been benefitted.

According to the sources, these organisations always received grant amount till March 31 between 2009 and 2019, but as the entire country has witnessed a steady rise in the cases of the deadly pathogen, these organisations have lost hope of receiving any grant within a month or two following the complete lockdown. “We have been borrowing money to arrange facilities for our children as whatever the circumstances are, we can’t let them to face the pain.

Otherwise also we had to arrange half of the total funds we required as the government grant we were receiving was not sufficient to arrange facilities for all the children. But the present situation has affected us badly. We have not received any grant since October 2019”, said Mukesh Tiwari, Secretary, Seva Bharti. “Those efficient members of the society who always lend helping hands to us, are also become helpless due to lockdown. In such situation, when the government is making arrangements for survival of daily wagers and other needy people in the ongoing crisis, we also want the government to at least help us get things arranged for these children,” he added.
