Salient features of Bhopal Master Plan draft

Urban Development and Housing Minister Jaivardhan Singh unveiled the much-awaited draft of Bhopal Master Plan 2031 on Thursday. The draft of master plan envisages overall development of Bhopal and it is first such master plan of country which has been prepared on GIS basis. After unveiling the Bhopal Master Plan, Minister Jaivardhan Singh told that it was in 1995 when last Master Plan for Bhopal was presented and it was meant till 2005. In last 15 years, no Master Plan was prepared. By presenting the draft of Bhopal Master Plan, Congress has fulfilled yet another promise made to the people. Highlighting various aspects of Bhopal Master Plan, he told that the previous master plan covered only 601 square kilometers area and the new master plan draft covers 1017 sq km.
 
He added that currently city’s population is around 18 to 20 lakh and new plan has been prepared by keeping 35 lakh population in mind. Master plan has provisions for BRTS corridor construction and Metro project construction as well. TDR provision has been done and ring road concept has incorporated. Now city will have inner ring road and outer ring road as well. Plan also envisages to protect heritage and lakes of city. Special provisions have been made in this regard. Protecting forest cover is top priority. Moreover, work is being done over the concept of lake front view.
 
Referring to raging controversy that trees have been cut in large number to build Smart City in Bhopal, he told that as many as 2,500 trees have been cut but he assured that 50,000 tree saplings will be planted to compensate the green cover loss and adequate land has been reserved for greenery under smart city project. Coming on Bhopal Master Plan draft, he asserted that slum free city concept will be realised by constructing high rise buildings. People can give the suggestions till next 30 days and after 90 days, Bhopal Master Plan draft will be finalised. On this occasion, Public Relations Minister P C Sharma, Congress MLA Arif Masood and senior Government officers were also present. 
 
Draft has been prepared in T20 style Minister P C Sharma told that Bhopal Master Plan draft has been prepared in T20 style. It is a master stroke of CM Kamal Nath and Minister Jaivardhan Singh as last Master Plan of city came when Digvijay Singh was CM of State. Now, his son Jaivardhan Singh is Minister in Government. CM Kamal Nath called all elected representatives including that of BJP to do discussion over Master Plan draft which also envisages to address traffic problem as well. He, however, suggested that historical Sadar Manzil should be conserved in better manner. New plan was need of the hour Congress MLA Arif Masood said that it was from last 25 years that Bhopal was waiting for its new Master Plan. The new master plan was need of the hour.
