Onset of summer leads to water crisis for wild animals in forest fringes. Water bodies are going to dry and situation is vulnerable for straying of wild animals towards human habitation in search of water. Forest Department prepared a work plan to avoid water crises at forest fringes to check water crisis for wildlife. The department has started filling of dry ponds through water tankers and cleaning of trenches for ensuring water availability in the forest area.

Dense forest areas of Kundam, Niwas and Mandla are reportedly dried during summers and wild animals moved out of their territories to quench their thirst. Divisional Forest Officer, Ravindra Mani Tripathi, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, says that onset of summer season leads to drying-up of water bodies and other natural water resources in dense forest areas, but straying of wild animals towards residential area could not be correlated with the water crunch as several cases of entering wild animals in residential areas are reported during winter and monsoon seasons due to increasing human habitation adjoining to forest areas. DFO, Tripathi informed that forest department is all set for ensuring availability of water at every 2 to 3 kms in the forest areas. Dried ponds are being filled with the help of water tankers while around 10-15 manmade water tanks are being filling with water.
