Crop insurance: 15 lakh farmers to get Rs 2,990 cr

CHIEF Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that 15 lakh farmers of the State will receive total Rs 2990 crore against crop insurance by next week. The amount will be deposited directly into their bank accounts. Chouhan was addressing a meeting of Agriculture Department at Mantralaya on Sunday. Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Principal Secretary Agriculture Ajit Kesri and other officers were present in the meeting. Chouhan said that premium of Rs 2200 crore payable by the Government for Kharif and Rabi crops was not paid by the previous government.
 
Farmers did not get benefit of crop insurance. Chouhan said that as soon as the Government was formed, we released this amount to insurance companies in March now the farmers will be able receive crop insurance money. The Principal Secretary Agriculture in the meeting informed that the premium amount towards crop insurance under Kharif season 2018 and Rabi season 2018-19 has been released to insurance companies by the Government.
 
Now, farmers will get the amount of crop insurance for these years. It was informed in the meeting that crops were insured by 35 lakh farmers in the State under the Kharif season 2018, out of which 8.40 lakh farmers will get insurance amount of Rs 1930 crore. Similarly, crops were insured by 25 lakh farmers in the State during Rabi season 2018-19. Out of these, 6.60 lakh farmers will get insurance amount of Rs 1060 crore.
