People, who are already reeling under the fear of coronavirus threat, were in shock after they felt mild tremors in Wardha district on Wednesday afternoon. The mild tremors were experienced at 14 villages in Hinganghat, Deoli and Wardha talukas and 79 kms from Nagpur city at 3.16 pm.
 
As per Geological Survey of India (GSI), Nagpur the tremors measuring 3.0 magnitude on the richter scale lasted for 5-6 seconds. Shriram Mundada, Tehsildar, informed that tremors were felt at Kangaon, Mozari Shekapur, Davlapur, Bhayyapur, Khangaon, Saati, Rohankhed, Korsurla, Warud, Nandgaon, Katri, Chanki in Hinganghat taluka, Amboda, Pathri and others villages in Deoli taluka, informed Chandrabhan Khandait, Sub Divisional Officer. The moment people felt tremors they ran out of their houses in fear.
 
The utensils on the kitchen rack fell down. Besides, vibrations were felt on the ground, informed Sanjay Ambane, Talathi. The walls of old houses also developed cracks due to tremors. No loss of life or property has been reported. The earthquake zoning map of India divides country into four seismic zones that is Zone 2, 3, 4 and 5, unlike its previous version, which consisted of five or six zones for the country. “Nagpur district comes under Zone 2 which is safe for earthquake activities.
 
The tremors that observed in Wardha on Wednesday was mild and hardly damage anything,” said Milind Dhakate, Director, GSI, Nagpur. “Nagpur comes under safe zone and there is no need to panic of such tremors,” said Dhakate. He informed that couple of weeks ago, Beltarodi area in Nagpur also observed some tremors due to some over surface events but in Wardha it is a low magnitude earthquake.
