Owing to outbreak of COVID-19, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to extend the affiliation of all its schools for one more year. Out of 504 affiliated schools of CBSE across Chhattisgarh, the affiliation tenure of most of the institutions is coming to end and they have applied to for further affiliation for the period of next three years. CBSE provides affiliation to all of its schools for a tenure of three to five years. In order to get extension, the school authorities have to again apply for the affiliation in academic and affiliation section of board’s site.

As per CBSE Bhubaneshwar region, which handles CBSE affiliated schools of West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh, around 293 out of 504 schools in State have applied for extention of affiliation. The last date for application was March 31- which was later extended to April 20, 2020. Owing to the outbreak of coronavirus and lockdown, the staff of schools are in home and they are not in position to fulfill all requirements of the board to get an extension of affiliation from it. Hence, several schools with affiliation of CBSE have requested the board to give relaxation and the board has decided to give one more year extension to these schools.

“We have applied for extention of our affiliation of primary and upper primary classes for three years. Due to coronavirus, we are facing obstacles in fulfilling parameters to get affiliation. So, it is a good initiative by the of board to extend the affiliation,” said Principal of BNS Senior Secondary School, Sector-8, Bhilai Padmaja Nandkumar. To apply for an extension, school authorities need to go through an online process that involves lots of documentation. The officials need to submit documents from education officer of its respective district and also of survey reports of school education by NCERT and other agencies. “At current phase, it is really difficult to clear parameters to get an extension of affiliation by CBSE. So, this relaxation of board is really a slight of relief to authorities of schools,” stated P S Baghel, District Education Officer of Durg District.
