ONE was arrested for attacking cattle with acid as the cattle were destroying farms and eating up farm produces in Nandini, Durg. The accused was remanded to jail from the court following his arrest. However one of the accused who was also involved in the criminal act of cruelty towards animal is still at large. Police sources informed that the accused arrested by police has been identified as Ashfaq Mohammed (23) who was residing in the farmhouse, located in Girhola village of Nandini, Durg along with the accomplice named as Nawaz.
 
The police said that the accused hailed from Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh and they were living here for the security of the family owned farmhouse of Girhola village in Nandini, Durg. After complaint the police succeeded in tracking down one of the accused and registered offence in the matter under sections 429 of Indian Penal Code and sections 4 and 10 of Chhattisgarh Agriculture Animal Protection Act 2004. While citing confession of the accused arrested by police, Jitendra Verma, Station House Officer (SHO), Nandini Police Station informed that the accused were infuriated over the intrusion by cattle in their farm and eating up the farm produce hence they indulged in the criminal act of attacking cattle with acid to refrain them from entering the farm.
 
The villagers of Girhola, Nandini were initially ignorant of about it to be the acid burns on their cattle and assuming that it could be the kind of skin disease as cattle might have consumed poisonous stuff with fodders. The heinous offence came to light when on Tuesday some cows and bulls did not return from fields and they found them with considerable burns on their legs and they were laying near the farmhouse while writing in pain. While suspecting involvement of the accused, the villagers lodged the police complaint in the matter. In the course of investigation after complaint the police succeeded in nabbing one of the accused.SHO, Verma told ‘The Hitavada’ that while indulging in the criminal act the accused used the sulfuric acid and the police have also recovered about half a liter of it in a plastic bottle from possession of the accused. In the course of investigation the police established the criminal charges and arrested one of the accused while on lookout for other. He also added that sulfuric acid, usually in low concentration, is used by farmers for cleaning drip pipes, chocked by weeds and fertilizer remains.
