‘Food processing plays key role in boost farmers’ income’

By reducing the expenditure of farming and utilisation of modern technology, income from agriculture can be increased, said Chhattisgarh’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister Amarjeet Bhagat. Taking stock of research and extension activities ongoing in Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) Raipur on Tuesday, minister Bhagat highlighted the importance of crops’ processing for ensuring better value to farmers for their produce. Meanwhile, the minister stressed on the promotion of food processing technology.
 
On the occasion, minister Bhagat visited Centre of Excellence in medicinal and aromatic plants and non-timber forest produce, Dr R H Richharia Research Laboratory and agriculture museum to take review the ongoing activities. IGKV Vice Chancellor Dr S K Patil apprised the minister about activities being carried out by the university and it’s Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to increase the income of farmers across the state.
 
Besides, Dr Patil also informed the minister about training being given to agriculture groups and woman self-help groups for manufacturing of value added food products through processing of separate crops. Praising the efforts being made by the university in training of woman self helped groups, minister Bhagat takes stock activities ongoing for extension of fish farming, livestock farming, management of agri-business and others. Director research Dr R K Bajpai, director extension services Dr S C Mukherjee and others were present during the minister’s visit.
