Cub’s carcass found in Pench Tiger Reserve

The carcass of a 17-month-old cub was found on Bakra Sassa island of reservoir at Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR), on Saturday. The carcass was identified as T-1583 cub, third cub of T-15 ‘Collarwali Baghin’ born on December 27, 2018. Carcass was found by on boat forest patrolling team in Bison Beat compartment number 588 under Karmajhiri circle. Field Director of Pench Tiger Reserve, Vikram Singh Parihar informed that in prima facie of the investigation it has been expected that the 17-month-old cub was killed by a tiger around 5-days back.
 
He informed that male tiger T-21 father of deceased cub was dead on April 4, 2020. Patrolling teams registered the presence of a male tiger in the territory of Collarwali Baghin. It has been expected that the tigress had migrated with her three cubs on the island as several evidences of her presence at the island have been found. On May 30, forest personnel sight the T-15 tigress while swimming with her two cubs towards Bakra Sassa island at Kumbhadev Beat of Karmajhiri circle.
 
The tigress was earlier injured in a clash with male tiger while protecting her cubs and a wound was spotted on her left paw on May 26, 2020. Learning about the incident, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) were informed about the incident while Assistant Director General, National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Hemant Kamdi was also present as NTCA representative along with Deputy Divisional Forest Officer, Rakesh Kudape. Samples were collected under the NTCA guidelines while viscera were preserved for scientific investigation under the supervision of senior officers and remains were set ablaze.
