The first COVID Care Centre (CCC) or COVID Isolation Hospital, a first of its kind initiative by the Health and Family Welfare Department, is ready for operation. The Health Department has converted the Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium, Raipur into a COVID Care Centre, a facility having 250 beds, wherein, COVID-19 positive patients with minor symptoms and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients will be provided medical care and necessary treatment. The CCC or isolation hospital as it may be called has been equipped with sound system, TV, fan, mobile plug, yoga venue, gym and other indoor games facilities like chess, ludo, carom, etc have been provided in the hospital. Besides the Health Department has made arrangements to screen inspirational and knowledgeable films which would not only motivate the patients, but will also provide healthy entertainment.
 
The Health Department has developed this COVID Care Centre as per the specifications and advisory issued by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Accordingly, the entire indoor stadium has been converted into hospital and partition has been erected for its division into separate wards. Separate sections for women and men, officers, employees and medical staff have been made in the premises. The COVID Care Centre will be monitored through CCTV.
 
Talking to The Hitavada, Health and Family Welfare Minister T S Singhdeo said that for the prevention and control of Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, the Health Department has initiated a process towards converting facilities into such COVID Care Centres and a target has been set to create such 141 COVID Care Centres across State apart from making arrangement of 21,230 additional beds for COVID-19 infected patients. Health Minister T S Singhdeo said that three types of facilities are being developed so that patients can be segregated according to their threat assessment. Accordingly, for patients having minor symptoms or are asymptomatic, COVID Care Centres are being established for them and the one at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium is first of its kind which is ready for operation. Similarly, patients who test COVID-19 positive are provided treatment in ICU in dedicated COVID hospitals while others who develop serious symptoms are put on ventilator.
 
In CCCs, since these are temporary facilities and do not have piped oxygen supply, it will be provided through the help of oxygen cylinders. Health Department officials informed that at the regional-level in State there are 1,770 beds in dedicated COVID hospitals while at the district-level there are 3,470 beds in dedicated COVID hospitals at present. All these hospitals have Intensive Care facilities. Apart from these another 141 COVID Care Centres are being established across State for COVID-19 patients who’re asymptomatic or having minor symptoms, where there will be 7,234 beds.
 
Also, process has been initiated for installing additional COVID Care Centres with total 6,500 additional beds. The officials further informed that 4,026 beds available in quarantine centres also can be used as COVID Care Centres if necessary. Meanwhile, in Chhattisgarh, the COVID-19 count has reached to 1,864 including 756 active cases and 1,099 people have been discharged after recovery from the disease. So far, 9 people have succumbed to death, of which, two persons have died due to COVID-19 while the remaining 7 have died due to associated comorbidities.
