GANESHPETH and MIDC Police arrested nine criminals planning to commit serious crimes and seized a cache of arms from their possession. In the small hours of Friday, Ganeshpeth Police nabbed nine hardcore criminals near Hyundai Showroom on Ghat Road and confiscated swords, knives, iron rods, packets of chilli powder from them.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Salim Javed Mohammad Haneef (35), a resident of Kabrastan Road, Mominpura; Gajanan alias Gaju Aman Borkar (30), a resident of Gosai ghat, Rani Durgawati Chowk; Sunil Shantaram Donadkar (22), a resident of Gangalwadi, Taluka Brahmapuri, district Chandrapur; Pawan Kanhaiyya Mahato (22), a resident of Bajeriya; Vinod Ramesh Patil (30), a resident of Pimpalgaon Devi, Mohtala, district Buldhana; and Balaji Hanmantu Patil (40), a resident of Rawanwadi, district Gondia. Similarly, MIDC Police arrested Wajid Khan Nazir Shaikh (21), a resident of Rajiv Nagar; Naushad Mustafa Shah (20), a resident of Gajanan Nagar; and Amit Ganesh Bhalavi (21), a resident of Bhim Nagar.
Police also took a juvenile delinquent into custody. Police seized sharp-edged weapons, a nylon rope, rods and packets of chilli powder from their possession. However, two other accused Datya Pradhan and Riyaz Shaikh managed to give a slip to the cops. Ganeshpeth and MIDC Police registered separate cases under Sections 399, 402, 188, 270 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 4, 25 of the Arms Act and 135 of Maharashtra Police Act against them.
