Horizon-2020, Government College of Engineering Nagpur (GCOEN) and Electronics and Telecommunication Student Association’s seven-day virtual technical festival proved to be a platform to innovate, a place to nurture the talents of budding technocrats. It featured various events pertaining to different branches and consisted of various events and lectures by prominent personalities to cater the students of various backgrounds and disciplines. This was the first iteration of this online technical festival and is the first virtual festival of the college. Right from its first edition it has created a benchmark of excellence. The event hit its stride right from the first day.
The whole festival consisted of 9 events with each event receiving enormous response. 960 students all over from India actively participated in theses events. Technical events included iDEATHON - A hackathon where 7 themes and different problem statements were given to the participants and the participants had to prepare projects/ prototypes based on it. This event proved to be the hotshot in the whole event and marked it’s importance with the attention it garnered from over the nation. Code-O-Mania being the competition for the emerging Python programmers proved to be torch-bearer for many who practice competitive programming. Programmers loved different interesting brain-teasers of the competition. Abstract was the paradise for sketch artists. The event was conducted on the online platform and comprised of participants submitting their sketches and the best sketch selected by the viewers was declared as the winner.
The festival also comprised 5 web seminars each with a proficient speaker in their respective field. The first in the list was the lecture on Cyber Security by Tejas Shastri, a well-known NSD certified tester. The next being the lecture on Introduction to Electronics and Industry by Prof Anil Bavaskar, Director of ECD Solutions. Lecture on Project Selection specifically for third and fourth year college students by Nanu Jagdamwar was very useful.
The next session of lectures started in association with Google Crowdsource Community with the lecture on ‘Robotics’ by well-known Crowdsource influencer Tanishq Kamdi. The next lecture was on ‘Machine Learning’ by the Global Crowdsource influencer Aniruddhha Khandwe. All the lectures received very overwhelming response from participants and ended on a very high note. The next event was for the most enthusiastic gamers Pubg-Saga and was streamed on the You-Tube platform, and it induced the fun factor among the various technical events.
The Faculty Co-ordinator for Horizon-2020 Prof Dr P R Deshmukh, Head of E and TC Department motivated all the students associated with the organisation of the Techfest and gave his full support in organising the festival. Being a technology enthusiast he himself went through all the projects in iDEATHON and also judged the event and made everyone understand the need of higher thinking skills in this ever-increasing Technological world. Dr M B Kumthekar, Principal, Prof Dr Prashant R Deshmukh the HoD of the E and TC Department and faculty members always stood beside the student committee which resulted in such a grand technical festival. The President of the ETSA Students Association Akshay Shingare and Tanmay Pardhi, Secretary of the Students Association being the backbone of Horizon along with the event coordinators and team-mates Pranay Tupkar, Shashwat Buradkar, Vaidehi Pardhi, Haardik Verma, Shantanu Tumbde, Shivam Phulari, Adwait Chavan, Sanket Wairagade, Mithilesh Kadam, Onkar Kumbhar, Anjali Chhatbar, Bhalchandra Joshi, Grecy Bais, Rima Thakur and along with their teammates took paints for the majestic organisation of the event.
