DHANTOLI Police on Monday cracked the mystery behind the sensational murder of a young man whose body with face smashed with boulders and a cement brick was found lying in a dilapidated house ten days ago. Cops established the identity of the deceased only after putting behind bars the killer. The deceased, Pankaj alias Pappu Sanjay Baisware (23) was a resident of Ramdaspeth. He used to run a small laundry near Kalpana Building in Ramdaspeth. Around 9.55 am on June 12, the body was found in a house owned by Vivek Kukreja at Plot No 34, Dr Daji Deshmukh Marg, Dhantoli.
The face was beyond recognition. Stones and a cement brick with blood stains were found near the body. ‘Shabnam’, a girl’s named, was tattooed on the shoulder. Initially, cops had registered an accidental death case. After receiving the autopsy report, police registered a murder case. However, the identity of the deceased could not be established. During investigation, a team of Dhantoli Police, led by PI Dhananjay Patil, checked the footages of CCTV cameras installed at the nearby buildings and public places in the locality. In one of the footages, the investigators found a youth coming out of the house on June 6. They then started searching for him.
Informers told the police that the man coming out of the house was Ramu Sanjay Sawle. Cops picked up Ramu (24) immediately from his house in Takia. During questioning, Ramu confessed to killing his friend Pankaj. Cops arrested Ramu on charges under Section 302 of the IPC. PI Dhananjay Patil told ‘The Hitavada’ that Ramu was a labourer and often used to enjoy liquor with Pankaj. “Exact motive behind the murder could be ascertained only after custodial interrogation of the accused,” he added.
