Food Safety Officials (FSOs) of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Nagpur Division on Wednesday raided the premises of M/S Nakul Sarwa Supari Processing unit and seized a stock of 11,496 kg of betelnuts worth Rs 32.69 lakh. FDA Joint Commissioner (Food) C B Pawar in a press release stated, “FDA has received a tip regarding the storage of betelnuts. As per the tip, the FSOs raided the premises of M/S Nakul Sarwa Supari Processing Unit owned by Nakul Budharu Sarwa, behind Payal beer bar, besides Verma Garage, Bhandara Road.
 
After the detailed investigations, the FSOs found that the suspected adulterated betelnuts are being processed in the premises. FSOs had collected the samples and sent them for public analyst to food testing laboratory. The stock weighing 11,496 kg worth Rs 32,68,860 was seized.” Pawar mentioned, “FDA Nagpur division during last year had sent 38 samples of betelnuts for testing.
 
The FSOs had seized a stock of betelnuts weighing 5,32,600 kg worth Rs 10,50,46,977. During April to June, this year, FSOs had raised at 11 different places and seized betelnuts weighing 1,10,599 kg worth 2,69,70,842. FDA has been conducting special drives on the basis of tips received from the citizens and taking action against the persons involved in the illegal trade.” All the raids were conducted under the guidance of joint commissioner C B Pawar.
