Umred girl picks her 4th Guinness Record in limbo skating
WHERE there’s will, there’s a way! Umred’s 16-year-old limbo skater Shristi Dharmendra Sharma has proved the adage with grit and determination. After making it a hat-trick of Guinness Records in four years from 2014 to 2017, Shristi was in search of the fourth one. She tried but failed, she tried harder but still could not make it. Then with more effort, she was almost there but due to some technical issues that were beyond her control, she missed out on a couple of occasions. The failures did not deter her. In fact, those helped her become more resolute. With all bases covered, Shristi attempted for fastest time to limbo skate under 10 bars on 28 January, 2020. All the necessary documents were sent to the records Management Team. Shristi took just 1.720 seconds to cover the distance of nine metres under 10 bars of 12 inches height for the fourth record.
The official communication from Guinness World Record arrived on Wednesday. It read, “We are thrilled to inform you that your application for Fastest Time to limbo skate under ten bar has been successful and you are the now the Guinness World RecordTitle Holder! The Guinness World Record certificate will be sent soon.” Her first two Guinness Records came as the lowest limbo skating over 10 metres and 25 metres in 2014 and 2105 respectively.
The third Guinness Record was on ice. She had to attempt at height of less than 20 centimetres. At the iSKATE, Ambience Mall, Gurugram, Haryana, in her first attempt she cleared a height of 19.5cm and in the second attempt she bettered it (17.78cm) for the record in 2017. “I am feeling very excited and happy. And as I had to work harder for this record, the happiness is even more. I have been doing under this banner of ‘Save The Girl Child’ and would feel more satisfied if any parent is inspired by my work and let their daughters enjoy the same rights as the sons.
“I am looking for other records that I can attempt but have not set any as of now. I have appeared for tenth exams and my aim is to become a doctor and serve the Indian Army,” said Shristi while talking to ‘The Hitavada’. Shristi, a student of Centre Point, Wardhaman Nagar, attempted the record on school premises. The event was organised by Aamvalley Sporting Association. Father Dharmendra was a relieved soul as her daughter picked yet another record. “After her third record, she has been trying hard for this record. But due to some or the other technical reasons, she could not make it. But she never lost hope and continued trying. We all are more than happy that her tireless efforts bore fruit,” said Dharmendra.
