Staff Reporter :
With an aim to ensure the safety of passengers travelling in auto-rickshaws, the Nagpur Police, on Monday, launched a Quick Response (QR) code scheme that will provide driver details to passengers. The auto-rickshaws will be easily tracked by the police. DCP Traffic Vikram Sali launched the scheme in the presence of Senior Police Inspectors of 10 Zones of Traffic Police.
A press release informed that the QR codes will be pasted on around 20,000 auto-rickshaws in city limits. The facility will ensure that only genuine and verified drivers are available to ferry passengers. The driver has to submit his details with office of Traffic Police to get the QR code. The passenger will have to scan the QR code by using QR scanner of his mobile phone and details of auto-rickshaw and driver appear on his mobile phone.
The passenger can share the information with relatives through WhatsApp and messaging services. In recent past, many incidents of thefts were reported with passengers while travelling in auto-rickshaw. Such passengers face problems while lodging police complaint as they were not aware of registration number of the auto-rickshaw.
