Staff Reporter :
TWO bike-borne men killed a youth purportedly over a love affair in Gopal Nagar in broad day light on Thursday. Rana Pratap Nagar Police took two suspects into custody in the evening. The deceased, Kartik Laxman Sarve (25) was a resident of Gopal Nagar. He was working with a cable TV operator. Kartik was returning home on his two-wheeler in the afternoon. He stopped in front of a shop near Gopal Nagar III Bus Stop. Two young men came from behind. Suddenly, the pillion rider smashed Kartik’s head with an iron rod. Kartik collapsed and was killed on the spot.
The killers then sped away. Local residents gathered where Kartik’s body was lying in a pool of blood. The news about Kartik’s murder spread like wild fire in the locality. His family members and relatives rushed to the spot to find him dead. Staff from Rana Pratap Nagar Police led by Senior Inspector Bhimrao Khandale arrived at the spot on being informed. After conducting the spot and inquest ‘panchnama’, cops sent the body to Government Medical College & Hospital for autopsy. Prima facie, police said, the murder may be a fallout of a love affair. Kartik had an affair with a young girl.
The girl’s brother allegedly had warned him to stay away from his sister. However, he continued to meet her secretly. The girl’s brother decided to teach Kartik a lesson. He and his friend started following Kartik on a bike around 2.30 pm. Her brother, who was riding pillion on his friend’s bike, smashed Kartik’s head with an iron rod killing him on the spot. Police registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the killers. Later, cops arrested two persons --Vikram Hukumbahadur Karki (30) and Ramu Gomate (29) -- in this connection. Further investigations are underway.
