Gadchiroli, A 23-year-old four-month-pregnant woman from Gundenur in Bhamragad taluka died on Wednesday evening as she failed to get timely medical attention in the want of transport facilities. The deceased has been identified as Jaya Podali. Jaya, mother of a four-year-old and expecting her second child, had gone to the farm on Wednesday and when she returned home she suddenly collapsed.

As there was no transportation available with the family and no scope of public transportation either, relatives carried the woman to the hospital on a cot. They crossed the waist deep water of Pamulgautam river between Gundenur and Laheri to reach the next side, which is around 5 kilometers from the village. She was then taken toPrimary Health Centre (PHC) of Laheri in an ambulance.

Doctors at Laheri PHC referred the woman to Rural Hospital of Bhamragad as her condition was serious. When the woman reached the hospital at Bhamragad she was declared brought dead by the doctors. When District Health Officer Dr Shashikant Shambharkar was asked about this he confirmed the death but ruled out possibility of her death due to complications in the pregnancy.
