State SEEs drop in nUmber of high scorers
THE pass percentage of students of Chhattisgarh in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class X under CBSE Bhubaneswar Region whose results were announced on Wednesday was 97.2%, an increase of 3.7%. Last year, the pass percentage of Chhattisgarh was 94.9%. However, the number of high scorers (90% and above) dropped in Chhattisgarh this time in stark contrast to the trend in the class XII board examination results.
This year only, 390 students from Chhattisgarh scored above 95% marks compared to 546 students who scored above 95% marks last year. Similarly, 1,053 students in the state scored above 90% marks compared to 1,386 students who scored above 90% marks in class 10 across state in the previous academic session of 2018-19. In a break with practice, no merit list of toppers was announced. It is learnt that, the class X board exams of CBSE were less affected by the COVID-19 pandemic than the class XII schedule of the board in academic session of 2019-20. As only two papers-Information and Communication as well as Computer Applications were remaining when the schools had to be closed examinations postponed due to Corona virus epidemic and the nationwide lockdown that followed.
The CBSE provided alternate assessment to declare results for those papers. Girls continued to perform better than boys, widening the pass percentage gap to 1.5% in Chhattisgarh. The pass percentage of girls in State is 98.2% as against of 95.4% pass percentage of girls recorded at class 10 board examination last year. On the other hand, the pass percentage of boys in Chhattisgarh is 96.2%, an improvement as against of 93.2% pass percentage of boys recorded in previous academic session. Almost 92.5% of children with special needs passed the examination in Chhattisgarh, a slight improvement from last year’s pass percentage of 91.8%.
Amongst all schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) at Chhattisgarh continued to outshine others, with pass percentage of 98.7% followed by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) with pass percentage of 97.9%. About 2.3% of students state wide have got compartment. The schedule for compartment exams is yet to be announced, given the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19. Just like class XII results, in class 10, owing to technical errors in the site, students faced difficulties in seeing their results after it was announced in the afternoon. Ashutosh Tripathi, one of coordinators of CBSE in Chhattisgarh and Director of Krishna Group of Schools said that in class X too, the CBSE has decided to replace the term ‘Fail’ by ‘Essential Repeat’ on site. The mark sheets of all students were delivered to their respective schools by email, he added.

Shreya aims to become a scientist School topper from DPS Bhilai, JV Shreya with 98.8% marks stood second in the city wants to pursue her studies in science subject and become a research scientist in future. She states, “I never made any strategy for studying, but if you have belief in yourself and study with proper planning you can achieve your goal.” Her favourite past time is photography and likes sharing her photographs in facebook and instgram. She credits her success to her parents and teachers. Her father J V Shrinivas and JV Vibha are working as AGM in Bhilai Steel Plant.

‘Dedication helps in achieving goal’ School topper from DPS Bhilai, Aditya Sahu also with 98.8% marks stood second in the city wants to become a software engineer from any reputed IIT. He says, “Regular study with dedication helps in achieving your goal.” He said that when not studying he loves watching television or go for a walk. Aditya credits his success to his parents and teachers. His father Bhoj Kumar Sahu is a BSP employee and mother Ambika Sahu is a housewife.
