Around 75 per cent of COVID-19 cases across Chhattisgarh have been confirmed from only 5 districts and even deaths from coronavirus were also reported from these districts so far. Raipur as well as largest district Rajnandgaon accounted for 50 per cent of the active COVID-19 positive cases at Chhattisgarh in last one month. Meanwhile now COVID-19 positive cases are being reported from all 28 districts of State, but maximum (at least two third) cases were confirmed or found only from Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Durg, Bilaspur and Janjgir-Champa districts till July 17.

According to Chhattisgarh Health Department, Chhattisgarh reported 5,003 cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak to till July 17. The first case of coronavirus positive in State was detected in Raipur on second week of March. So far 3,500 patients recovered and discharged from hospital. At present, the total number of COVID-19 positive active cases stand at 1,485. Few other districts such as Korba, Surguja, Balrampur, Raigarh, Bastar, Mungeli, Balod, Kabirdham, Kanker, Mahasamund and Balodabazar contributed 23 per cent cases of COVID-19 positive in State during last one month. With over 1,900 cases, Raipur district recorded the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases at Chhattisgarh so far. After that, Rajnandgaon witnessed the second highest number of coronavirus positive cases in State.

Apart from these districts, Durg, Bilaspur and Janjgir-Champa also saw highest number of COVID-19 active cases in last few weeks. But only Raipur and Rajnandgaon reported 2,504 cases of COVID-19 in last few weeks. Meanwhile, the recovery rate from coronavirus infection were on continuous rise and at present, 78 per cent of coronavirus patients were recovered and discharged from hospitals at different districts were about 2.1 times more the number of active cases of coronavirus in Chhattisgarh. Even the recovery rate of coronavirus cases at Chhattisgarh is 15 per cent more than national recovery rate which stands at 63 per cent.

Meanwhile the death toll from the coronavirus infection increased to 24 till July 17 in State. The shocking part is that, of them 14 lost their lives from this infection in last three weeks. Dr Akhilesh Tripathi, Deputy Director of Chhattisgarh Health Department and In-charge of COVID-19 cases at Chhattisgarh, owing to careless attitude as well as violation are major reasons in sharp rise of COVID-19 positive across Raipur. Despite warnings by district administration and health department, population of Raipur hardly follows rules and violate at regular intervals of time.

Now the result is that, over 100 cases of coronavirus are being reported daily from capital district in last few weeks, he added. Observing the cost of COVID-19 treatment varies from state to state including Chhattisgarh, the Supreme Court of India said that it cannot regulate the cost. As result of it, now health department has to take decision immediately on fix rate of testing. When contacted, Niharika Barik Singh, Principal Secretary of Health Department asserted that the apex court asked the department to hold a meeting to fix the rates and consider if some guidelines can be issued about it in State, she pointed.
