Bus operators exempted from paying tax for June

Giving a huge respite to the passenger bus operators, the State Government has given exemption from payment of monthly tax for the month of June. Earlier, the State Government had already given similar exemption for payment of monthly tax for the months of April and May. On the directive of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the state government has given exemption for a cumulative period of three months to the passenger bus operators from paying their monthly tax.
This decision of the state government which has been taken while keeping in view the crisis that arose due to COVID-19 pandemic, will provide a cumulative benefit of Rs 5 crore to the bus operators. It is worth mentioning here that due to the lockdown enforced for prevention and control of Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, the passenger bus operators had to face lot of problems as during this period plying of buses on all routes including inter-district, intra-district and inter-state was suspended. Although the suspension on intra-district and inter-district plying of buses has been lifted, the inter-state bus operation is still suspended.
On the directive of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the Transport department, in an order issued on June 4, had exempted passenger bus operators from payment of monthly tax for the month of April and May. Since the plying of passenger buses was completely suspended in the state till the month of June 2020, the State Government has decided to extend the exemption for payment of monthly taxes till the month of June. A request in this direction was also made by the Bus Operators Association to the Chief Minister.
This will benefit the passenger bus operators who’re presently passing through an economic crisis. Similarly, the Chief Minister has given instructions to the Transport Department to take action for exemption for the period of two months from the provisions of depositing advance tax payable in advance before putting the vehicle in use.
