Boy swept away in Kalamna nullah

A 10-year-old boy swept away while crossing a nullah on a narrow cement pole in Kalamna area on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Nehal Shekhar Meshram, a resident of Gulmohar Nagar. A police official said that the nullah flows between Gulmohar Nagar and Laxmi Nagar area.
 
The residents have to walk on the cement electricity pole to cross the nullah. Nehal was living with his parents in a rented accommodation near the nullah. He was playing with a friend on Sunday afternoon. While crossing the nullah, he suddenly lost his balance and fell in the stormwater. Within a second, he washed away and disappeared in the water.
 
His friend raised an alarm after which a large number of people gathered at the spot. Staff of Kalamna police, Fire Department of NMC and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) also rushed to the spot. The joint teams launched search for the boy in the nullah. A case of accidental death was registered by Kalamna police. Further investigation is on.
