With coronavirus cases on rise, the Government machinery is facing several challenges everyday. Indian society witnesses several religious functions throughout the year. These functions have public participation in large numbers. Otherwise it doesn’t affect much, but in the wake of Covid-19 situation stricter rules are implemented which Government has to impose in a soft manner. The appeals from the leaders who have large following in the society makes an impact. In that regard ‘The Hitavada’ talked to Devendra Fadnavis, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and now a Leader of Opposition to know from him his views about celebrating Ganesh festival that would begin on August 22. He urged people to act with wisdom while celebrating this festival. Fadnavis said, “Lord Ganesh is the God of wisdom and knowledge. We have been worshipping him for last thousands of years maybe from time infinite. In the wake of coronavirus outbreak time has come when we should act wisely.”
“Celebration of festivals is the soul of Indian tradition. Our country is different than others as far as such Godly celebrations are concerned. I think we should use our prudence while celebrating such public gatherings like Ganesh festivals. I appreciate our brothers, for their acts during Eid and Dr Ambedkar Jayanti as they didn’t come out for celebration. We didn’t have Shri Ramnavmi procession in Nagpur which is the world’s unique event. It was a big decision by the organisers. I also appreciate the decision of Dahi Handi groups in Mumbai who have withdrawn voluntarily and decided not to hold their activities this year. Mind well it is the biggest activity in Mumbai,” pointed out Fadnavis.
“I may not say there should be no Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals celebrating Ganesh festival but they should do it cautiously, there should be no flouting of social distancing norms. Secondly, in case Government comes with guidelines we should abide by it because it will be for our good. Lot of cases are on the rise and if some measures are not taken with strict implementation the situation will worsen. We can perform puja at our homes with full devotion. Ganesh is God of wisdom so he expects us to act in a wise manner,” urged Fadnavis.
