Sandip Joshi, Mayor, visited the area in Pardi, Bharatwada-Punapur in East Nagpur under Smart City project and demanded the third instalment of compensation be paid to project-affected persons (PAPs). Joshi visited the area along with Krishna Khopde, East Nagpur MLA and invited Director to Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL); Girish Vyas, MLC; Manisha Kothe, Deputy Mayor; Vijay alias Pintu Zalke, Chairman of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Standing Committee; Sandeep Jadhav, Ruling Party Leader; Narendra alias Balya Borkar, Chairman of Transport Committee; and others. Later in the evening, NMC issued a press release in which Mayor was quoted as saying that Smart City was an important project for the city’s development.

It is one of the ambitious projects of Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways. The bhoomipujan of the project was performed two years ago. However, he alleged, the pace of the project work had slowed down in past six months. According to him, the officers concerned said that release of the third instalment of the compensation to PAPs was stopped by Chief Executive Officer of NSSCDCL citing the reason that decision on the same would be taken in the meeting of Board of Directors.

“Efforts are being made to wind up Smart City project,” Joshi alleged. Mayor also took stock of the works under the project. At Pawangaon brick kiln area, the works of water tanks and 52 km road were stalled for six months, Mahesh Moroney, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NSSCDCL, informed Joshi. Khopde alleged that Rs 10 crore out of the work order amount of Rs 17.50 crore was paid to the contractor concerned but not even five per cent of the work was completed. Joshi expressed displeasure over this and asked the officials concerned to expedite the works.
