As the symbol of ill gotten means came crashing down in Zingabai Takli, the scene was reminiscent of a telling blow on anti-social Sahil Sayyed, currently cooling heels in jail or various charges of fraud and land grabbing. After city police pulled the rug under Sahil, civic body pounded on the sprawling bungalow in Baba Farid Nagar, after declaring the same as illegal construction. On Wednesday afternoon, menacing machines razed the three storeyed building of Sahil, perhaps a signal of bringing down of an empire. The action on part of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) was similar to one witnessed by city during last year in different parts of the city.

That time the name in news was that of Santosh Ambekar, the gangster, whose King’s style living quarters came crashing down post crackdown The three-storeyed house of Sahil was classified as illegal for violation of building bye-laws by the civic body a few days back. After authorisation from Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the NMC anti-encroachment squad took the charge and completed the job, demolition of excess construction of the palatial bungalow. A big posse of city police kept a tight bandobast under watchful eyes of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gajanan Rajmane.

The strong police posse made the task of civic machinery easier as attempts on part of members of Sahil's family to stop demolition could not succeed. Mahesh Morone, Deputy Commissioner, Anti-Encroachment, Harish Raut, Assistant Commissioner, Mangalwari Zone, Girish Wasnik, Executive Engineer, and others oversaw the removal of encroachment as the house of Sahil was dubbed on official records. Sahil had built the house in Bagdadiya colony and same was declared illegal under sec. 53 of Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Rules.

On august 10, a notice was served asking removal of encroachment on the plot no. 244 and 245 in survey no. 88. Sahil had allegedly grabbed the plots and post inquiry NMC concluded and construction in 500 sq.mtrs was illegal. After receipt of report from Mangalwari Zone, Mundhe cleared the move to demolish the buildings. Since, Sahil failed to take any action to remove the illegal construction, NMC machinery swung into action on Wednesday. Deputy Engineer Kamlesh Chavan, Junior Engineers Manoj Rangari and, Rajesh Wankhede, Assistant Superintendent (Anti-Encroachment) Sanjay Kamble supervised the demolition drive. Inspector Ganesh Thakre and staff of Mankapur police station ensured that the demolition drive was carried out without any interruption.

About 288 plots was sold by Satranjipura Badi Masjid Society in 16 acre land without any clearances from either Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) or NMC. These plots were sold on agreement to sale and no registry of the said land was ever done. As to Sahil's plots, same were grabbed by him to constructed the sprawling bungalow. NMC has issued notices to other house owners in said area and action would be initiated against them in due course of time. Deepak Jambhulkar, Assistant Structural Engineer, NMC, P K Giri, Mahendra Janbandhu, Prashant Sonkusare; Sunil Bawne, B P Malwe, Suresh Dahake, all from anti-encroachment squad and Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) too were part of the action initiated today.
