Every single information with documents have to be dropped in a box at Ravi Bhavan

“I want to make Nagpur a crime-free city where my mothers, sisters can move freely and nobody will harm them if they have to go out for their work even during night hours. To make Nagpur a crime-free city, I have to make it criminal-free. With this view, I have urged people to provide information on the goons in their areas. I promise them their identity would not be revealed to anybody. Once we come to know about the goons, we will take strong action against them so that they could not dare again,” Home Minister Anil Deshmukh vowed while talking to ‘The Hitavada’.

After coming down heavily on notorious Santosh Ambekar, Roshan Sheikh, Priti Das, Tapan Jaiswal, Mangesh Kadao, nacotic gangster Abu Anna, the Home Minister now has taken another unique initiative. He has appealed people to come forward with information of the ill-famed goons in their area. The names will reach directly to Deshmukh who will discuss those names with top cops then stricter action would be taken against the goons through a strategy. Deshmukh said, “I keep getting the complaints about goons from the common public.

After taking charge I gave the required boost to the police department and asked them to take action against goons without fear which they followed. It resulted in imprisonment of several goons. During the same period I had decided to chalk out plan for other dreaded goons too. Unfortunately, these goons are roaming freely troubling common people.” Praising the leadership of top cop Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay, Deshmukh informed, “With Dr Upadhyay we have taken action on 118 criminals under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA) while 51 were externed.

We went to the extent of demolishing the residences of Ambekar, Sahil Sayyed. Now I want to make Nagpur- a crime-free city.” After taking action against several goons of Nagpur Deshmukh had reviewed the situation in a meeting of cops. In the meeting he was informed that no goon remained there who could trouble people. “I believe in the police fully. At the same time, I felt some gangsters might not have active and could prove troublesome later on. Considering that angle, the idea of appealing people to pass on the information of such goons struck me,” explained Deshmukh.

What if the identity of persons providing information of goons is disclosed? “Earlier I thought people would either approach the respective police station and share information there. But there is a risk of getting revealed the identity of the informer. I don’t want to caste an aspersion on any policeman but as a goodwill gesture somebody can inform the goon, unnecessarily create problem for the common man approaching enthusiastically. So, I dropped that idea,” pointed out Deshmukh.
