Tiger population rising rapidly in Sehore Forest Division

Sehore Forest Division of State has recorded substantial increase in tiger population. In the year 2010 there were hardly two tigers, but recently released tiger census 2018 showed that Sehore district has presence of 32 tigers. The rise of tiger population in leaps and bounds has brought smile on the faces of wildlife lovers. Forest officials claimed that this happened because of better conservation plan which includes e-surveillance system, ensuring water sources, camera traps, patrolling, natural habitation etc.
 
There are 19 tigers active in Veerpura range, 12 tigers in Budhni range and one is active in Rehti range of Sehore Forest Division. Budhni Forest Ranger Shivpal Piparde said, “Concerned over the poaching cases, the Forest Department tighten the security around Veerpur, Sehore and Budhi during year 2010. Strict vigilance was being made”. He further said that e-surveillance system was also started in the area during year 2010 where big cats were being monitored via moderated cameras.
 
He informed that during year 2010, there were only one male and one female tiger in Sehore. In the year 2013, tigress gave birth to four cubs and then during year 2015 population increased to 10. In January 2017, four new cubs were born and then again in November 2017, six cubs were born. In the year 2018, four cubs were born and January 2019, two new cubs were born. One of the tigers moves towards Dewas jungle and one tiger was shifted to other place due to behaviour issues. He said that control room of the e-surveillance system in Sehore is set up at Kerwa. There are five such towers and cameras placed on the tower catch the happening of 3 km in radius.
