AS MANY AS 20 cattle were prevented from being slaughtered due to promptness of the district police. The police have caught seven persons. The accused were allegedly taking the cattle to Nagpur in a truck. The accused identified as truck driver Tarsen Lal, helper Ganesh Dubey, Aslam Qureshi, Aarif Qureshi, Lukdas Dhrutlehre, Rajkumar Dhrutlehre and Suraj Jangde have been charged under Sections 4 and 6 of Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Protection Act, Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and other relevant sections.
The accused were produced in court for further legal processes and cattle were sent to local Gaushala. On Sunday night, Nawagarh police of the district got a tip-off that a herd of cattle was being smuggled to a slaughter house in Nagpur. On the basis of inputs, a team of police personnel intercepted truck with seven persons on board near village Salheghori. While, frisking a herd of 20 cattle was also found in the truck. The truck driver Tarsen failed to produce any related documents for transporting cattle. Cattle seller Lukdas disclosed of contacting Tarsen over phone for transporting cattle.
Cattle were recovered and sent to Gaushala. Truck (JK 08 F 0549) worth Rs 10 lakh was impounded and accused were charged under relevant sections. Nawagarh SHO Ambar Singh, ASI Jagmohan Kunam, Head Constable Suresh Singh and other police personnel were part of the action.
