Crime against women increased in Mah by 10.95% in 2018

■ As per CID report, rate of crime against women in Maharashtra was 60.43% in 2018
 
 
IN MAHARASHTRA, crime against women increased by 10.95 per cent in year 2018 as compared to total cases in 2017.The state witnessed a specific increase of 3,504 such cases during the year 2018 as compared to cases in 2017. This was revealed in the report of Crime Investigation Department (CID). It was stated in the report that the Central and State governments have enacted various legislative measures intended to ensure equal rights, to prohibit social discrimination and various forms of violence and to provide support services, especially to working women.
 
Though in various crimes, i.e. murder, robbery etc. women are victims, they are not categorised as crime against women. Only those offences which are specifically committed against women are treated as crime against women. The percentage of Indian Penal Code (IPC) crimes committed against women, in total IPC crimes was 11.08 per cent during 2018, which has decreased to 10.25 per cent during year 2018. The rate of crime against women in Maharashtra (i.e. number of crimes against women per lakh of population) was 60.43 per cent during 2018. The rise in number of cases is because more women victims are coming forward to lodge complaints after Delhi’s ‘Nirbhaya’ case.
 
Mumbai Commissionerate accounts for 17.06 per cent of all crimes against women, which is highest in the state, followed by Thane (C) 5.44 per cent Pune (C) 4.18 per cent, Ahmednagar 4.1 per cent, Pune Rural 4 per cent, and Nagpur (C) 3.05 per cent, the report stated.
 
70% rape victims from 18-30 years age group TOTAL 2,149 women fell victim to rape in 2,142 rape cases registered during the year 2018. Among them, 1,524 (70.92 per cent) were in the age group of 18-30 years and 552 (25.69 per cent) were in the age group between 30-45. In the age group of 18-30 which shows an increase by 6.72 per cent during 2018 as compared to year 2017.
 
Kidnapping, abduction cases rise CASES of kidnapping and abduction of women and girls increased by 9.23 per cent during year 2018 as compared to year 2017. Mumbai (C) saw an increase of 5.8 per cent in such cases.
 
Dowry death cases decline A TOTAL of 200 dowry deaths were reported in the State in year 2018 against 233 such cases in year 2017. This shows decline in such cases by by 14.16 per cent in year 2018.
 
Cruelty by husband, relatives THE incidences of cruelty by husband and relatives (torture) increased by 4.22 per cent in year 2018. In year 2018, a total of 6,862 such cases were reported in the State. Highest number of such cases were reported from Mumbai (C) 520 (7.58%) out of total 6,862 reported crimes in the State.
 
Rise in cases of molestation DURING year 2018, the incidences of molestation in the State have increased by 15.36% as compared to year 2017. A total of 10,835 incidences of molestation were reported in the State. Of them, 2,038 were reported from Mumbai (C), 504 from Pune Rural, 476 fromAhmednagar, 465 from Thane (C), 406 from Pune (C), 366 from Solapur Rural, 302 from Pimpri Chinchwad (C), and 284 from Satara.
 
Eve-teasing up by 16.87% IN MAHARASHTRA, 1,074 eveteasing cases were reported in year 2018, which shows a rise in such cases by 16.87 per cent as compared to year 2017. Of them, Mumbai (C) had reported (532) 49.53% cases, followed by Thane (C) with (53) 4.93%, Pune (C) (44) 4.1%, Chandrapur (37) 3.45%, and Ratnagiri (37) 3.45%.
 
Nagpur second in immoral trafficking CASES registered under the ImmoralTrafficking (Prevention) Act were decreased in the State by 19.35 per cent in year 2018 (200) as compared to year 2017 (248). Of them, 57 per cent cases reported from Mumbai (C) (65), Nagpur (C) (18), Navi Mumbai (17), Pune (C) (14).
 
Decline in number of cases of abetment to commit suicide DURING year 2018, 881 cases of abetment to commit suicide were reported in the State. The cases were decreased by 7.36% as compared to year 2017. Highest number of such cases were reported from Ahmednagar (47), followed by Pune Rural (44), Mumbai (C) (41), Aurangabad Rural (40), and Solapur Rural (40).
