TO CHECK operational preparedness to thwart any nefarious designs of terrorists, City Police conducted a mock drill at the LPG Bottling Plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL), Khapri on Thursday. Quick Response Teams (QRTs), comprising one officer and 34 armed commandos, Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad (BDDS), Traffic Branch (Ajni) and staff of Beltarodi Police Station participated in the almost two-hour long exercise. Senior police officials checked the response time and Guerrilla warfare tactics of commandos inducted in QRTs, besides analysing coordination between police and other security agencies.

Around 10.55 am, a call was made to Police Control Room providing information that two heavily armed terrorists entered the HPCL’s LPG Bottling Plant in Khapri and taken some staff members hostage. After the Control Room Officer alerted the QRTs, one officer and 34 armed commandos boarded the vehicles around 11 am and rushed to HPCL’s LPG Bottling Plant. BDDS led by Woman Police Inspector Vaijayanti Mandavdhare followed them.

Cops attached to Traffic Branch (Ajni) cleared the route for the QRTs. Soon, Beltarodi Police led by senior Inspector Vijay Akot also reached the main gate of plant. The ‘actual’ operation started at around 11.15 am after the commandos took their position targeting the two ‘terrorists.’ After exchange of fire, the commandos ‘eliminated’ one of the ultras and ‘captured’ his colleague. Senior police officials then conducted audit through the exercise and were analysing the overall security preparedness in case of any such terrorist attack at vital installations across the Second Capital.
