BY CALLING on President Mr. Ramnath Kovind to discuss the probe by Delhi Police in the February riots that claimed 53 lives, Opposition leaders have given more credence to the theory that the riots were nothing but a politically-engineered act with a motive to defame the Central Government. The leaders have also raised doubts over Delhi Police’s probe into the violence that uncannily coincided with the high-profile and highly strategic visit of US President Mr. Donald Trump to India. This is nothing but a deliberate attempt to give political colour to a law and order incident being probed by Special Investigation Teams (SIT) of Delhi Police. The way the probe is panning out has become extremely uncomfortable for a few Opposition parties as it is in contrast to their political agenda. There are enough proofs to suggest that the riots were engineered by some anti-national elements to give religious twist to the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) passed by the Parliament. Investigation has laid bare links of top politicians to the anti-CAA protests which has come as a body blow to the Opposition parties. Hence the attempt to put political pressure.
