10 out of 16 major dams in Nagpur division have 90% water level

GOOD monsoon activities during June to August increased the water stock of all major reservoirs of Nagpur division at a record level. Ten out of 16 major dams in the division have water stock above 90 per cent mark which is a good news for farmers in the region. Only five out of 16 dams had water level above 90 per cent in 2019. Bawanthadi in Bhandara district have total of 92.75 per cent of water level on Tuesday, while Dina dam in Gadchiroli have 92.07 per cent water stock.

Totladoh dam which is the life line for Nagpur city have the water stock of 95.25 per cent and the local administration believes that the stock in the reservoir will cater the water demand of Nagpur city for at least two years. Totladoh dam had 65.95 per cent water level last year on this date. Wadgaon dam (93.99%) and Kamptee Khairy (99.53%) of Nagpur district also have almost full stock. In 2019, Kamptee Khairy had just 38.43 per cent water stock on September 8 howeverWadgaon had 89.71 per cent. Out of four major dams in Gondia district, three reservoirs including Sirpur (94.54%), Itiadoh (99.94%) and Pujaritola (94.51%) have the water stock above 90 per cent while Kalisarar dam have the stock about 87.89 per cent.
 
Lower Wardha (91.21%) and Bor (89.39%) of Wardha district also have the best water level of the season. Asolamendha which is the only major dam in Chandrapur district have the water stock by 87.49 per cent and it is capable to cater the water demand of the district at least for couple of years. Gosikhurd reservoir which is a major project of Bhandara district have the water stock by 48.71 per cent.
 
Due to heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh and EastVidarbha in the last week of August increased water level drastically in major dams in Nagpur division. Even Pench and Kanhan rivers in East Vidarbha experienced flood situation due to heavy rainfall. Three months of monsoon got over but still one month is left and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rains during this month but the intensity will be reduced drastically
