Personal vendetta reason behind 68.32% murder cases in Nagpur: CID report

IN THE entire state of Maharashtra, Nagpur is the only city where personal vendetta or enmity was the main reason for maximum number of murder cases reported in the year 2018. The figure reflects high level of grudge or feeling of hatred among anti-social elements for each other.
 
This information came to fore in a report‘Crime in Maharashtra in year 2018’ published by Crime Investigation Department (CID). According to report, a total of 72 murders were reported in Nagpur in 2018. Of them, personal vendetta or enmity was reason behind 44 murder cases which is 68.32 per cent of total murders. Ex-Director General of Police (Legal and Technical) and ExCommissioner of Police Nagpur S PYadav told‘The Hitavada’ that previous enmity among antisocials was always known to the police. In very few cases, police were unaware about the intergang or personal rivalry. “These are the preventable murders, police are well aware about who is the aggressive party or a person.
 
The cops can initiate immediate preventive action against such person and prevent such murders,” Yadav said. In many cases, matka, gambling and cricket betting were found to be the main reasons Rival gangs commit murder to gain supremacy over the opponent. Land disputes and illicit relationships are also the reason behind such cases. The CID report further stated that a total of 2,199 murders were reported in the State.
 
Of them, personal vendetta or enmity was the reason in 243 (11.05 per cent) murder cases, illicit relationship for 256 (11.64 per cent) murder cases, property dispute for 177 (8.05 per cent) murder cases, love affairs 125 (5.68 per cent), dowry for 36 (1.64 per cent) murder cases, gain for 43 (1.96 per cent) murder cases. 
 
73.89 per cent victims were male DURING year 2018, a total of 2,199 murder cases were reported in the State in which 2,272 persons were killed. Of them, 1,625 victims were male while 647 were female. The highest number of male victims (574) are from the age group 30 to 45 years whereas highest number of female victims (237) are from age group 18 to 30 years. Of 2,272 murder victims, 54 victims were killed by firearms. These include 46 by use of unlicensed firearms and eight with licensed arms.
