“ONLY laws are not sufficient for women’s safety but changing the mindset of the people towards the respect for females is also necessary,” said Madhya Pradesh Power Minister, Pradhuman Singh Tomar on Friday in Gwalior. Tomar was addressing an inaugural ceremony of the workshop organised by the State Transport Department on the topic of ‘Women Safety in Public Transportation’.

The Madhya Pradesh Transport Department has taken an initiative to organise workshops across the State to educate the drivers and co-drivers of the public transport vehicles about the safety of the women. Transport Commissioner of the Madhya Pradesh, Mukesh Jain and additional transport commissioner (Enforcement), Arivind Saxena were also addressed the inaugural function of the drive. The headquarters of Transport Department of the MP is in Gwalior.

“For the safety of women, we have to ensure strict laws as well as the participation of society. The society should boycott those people who are guilty towards the women harassment cases, it will give a message to the community about the respect of the women”, said Tomar. The minister also said that around forty years ago, the society used to not accept the criminals and people separate such men from the community, now the time had come to adopt the old traditions towards the women harassers.

Energy Minister, Tomar added that the department should honour and encourage those drivers and the co-drivers who were doing good work in the field of women safety. Tomar hailed the initiative taken by the transport department for holding workshops regarding the women safety. On this occasion, the Transport Department also honoured the drivers, co-drivers and vehicle operators who have done excellent work in public transport.

Addressing the drivers, co-drivers and the operators of the public transportation, the Transport Commissioner, Mukesh Jain said that we had to change our behaviour towards the women as we liked, because life is also like an ecosystem.
“Stringent laws have been enacted by the government to protect women but their safety is not possible only by the legislatures, the active participation and positive thinking of the society are absolutely necessary for this”, T C Jain added.

Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement ) Arvind Saxena also addressed the gathering and he threw light about the purpose of organising the workshop and the work being done by the Department in the field of women safety.
