Poacher arrested with scales of pangolin in Waraseoni

Forest Department, Waraseoni had a major success to its credit when the team arrested a poacher who was trying to sell scales of rare wild animal pangolin in front of Waraseoni tehsil office. The arrested accused has been identified as Chatur Singh (33), son of Chahetar Uikey, resident of Balaghat. He was arrested by forest sleuths when he was going to sell the scale of pangolin to an unidentified person. Forest team recovered from him scale of pangolin whose weight was 7 kg and market value of this recovered scale of pangolin is worth Rs 7 lakh. Forest Guard Bhavani Bisen informed that a man was attempting to sell the scales of a pangolin and then was arrested. He was brought to the office of Forest Department and on interrogation, he informed about his accomplice, Thagel Singh (27), son of Chain Singh Mandavi, resident of Dohra, Parawada. The other accused was also arrested from Garra Chowk. Range Officer Yashpal Mehra informed that they received tip-off about a man trying to sell scales of pangolin. Hence forest team swung into action. Range Officer himself posed as customer and approached the poacher expressed interest in seeking the scale of pangolin. After much deliberation, poacher agreed to give the scales in Rs 35,000. The accused was selling scales of pangolin at the rate of Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000 per kilogram. Both the poachers were arrested and were booked under Section 2 (1) 16 © 9,39, 44, 48 (a), 49, 49 (a), 49 (B), 50, 51, 52 and 57 of WildLife Protection Act 1972 and sent to jail. This raid was conducted by team including Assistant Range Officer Virendra Dubey, Rajendra Uikey, Vanpal Tarachand Dongre, Bhavani Bisen, Ravindra Ladkar, shailendra Jagjeevan, Nandkishore Dolas Mahesh Bisen, Mangulal Deherwal, Vinay Bhawre, Panda Baba, Hitesh Chachane and others.
